This implantable single-channel button features an external port with a septum for quick, aseptic connection and disconnection of a catheterized rat and a tether for continuous access, or needlefree intermittent access with a syringe.
The button contains no metal, making it MRI-compatible: the catheter connector is 22ga Nitinol, not stainless steel, and the tether connects with a twist-in connection similar to a luer fitting, rather than with magnets as in our standard VABR1B/22 buttons.
Attach a 3Fr polyurethane catheter (for example: JVCs, FVCs, CACs) to a 22ga connector under the felt. The recessed septum-piercing needle will make the fluid connection without exposing the fluid path to the environment. Alternatively, access the button manually with the needle-free VAH6M injector. Use the VAB95CAP protective cap to group house animals when they are not tethered.
Use the VAB95T tether or KVAB95T tether kit for continuous infusion outside the MRI. If you need to infuse while in the MRI, use the MRI-compatible VABT22-MRI connector with tubing that fits onto 22ga, such as BTCOEX-22.
NOTE: The original version of this button, VAB95BS, has been discontinued and replaced by VABR1B/22.
