Catheterize two separate vessels and use a two-channel system to collect manual blood samples outside the cage without touching the animal, all while infusing continuously through a swivel.
The blood collection line uses PE/PVC tubing for minimal evaporation and terminates in a PinPort™ for simple, clean access with a syringe fitted with a PNP3M injector or a Sarstedt capillary collection tube with a PNP3MS connector (arterial pressure is required for capillary collection tubes).
If you are already performing surgery to place the IV dosing catheter, why not take the simple extra step of placing a blood sampling catheter to avoid the pain, stress
If your institute does not have a surgeon on site, in many parts of the world Charles River and Envigo can implant the catheters and two-channel Vascular Access Button™ as a surgical service so that the animals arrive at your lab recovered from surgery and ready for use.
You can take this system a step further by connecting the blood sampling line through a two-channel swivel to an automated blood sampler.
Note that you cannot use this system with the side port for two continuous lines; you need a two-channel swivel for that. Watch this video to see why.
