Giving a rat an oral dose is a quick, common procedure that is fraught with danger. Without proper equipment or training you can damage the animal’s esophagus, leading to trauma or death.
We are proud to lead the way in transitioning rodent oral gavage away from traditional stainless steel needles to flexible, soft-tipped plastic tubes. Choose our 22ga/38mm (black) version for rat pups, 18ga/50mm (pink) for 100-200gm rats, 18ga/75mm (pink) or 15ga/78mm (blue) for typical 200-300gm rats, or the polyurethane 13ga/88mm model for viscous compounds. For large rats we have a 15ga/100mm tube or even 13ga tubes.
If you are not sure which is best for you, request a free sample pack and try them all. Be sure to view our training video (below) which shows how to properly scruff and dose with the plastic tubes; you may have to change your technique slightly if you are used to stainless steel.
