The automation of routine blood sampling from rats has transformed pharmacokinetics research in numerous pharmaceutical companies and contract research organizations around the world. Time points are collected precisely around the clock. A single technician can run multiple studies simultaneously. And blood is sampled without the rat even realizing it’s happening, improving animal welfare and minimizing stress which could impact data.
A complete system consists of an automated blood sampler unit (one per animal), a swivel and tether system primed with heparinized saline, and a catheterized rat with a Vascular Access Button™. In many parts of the world, you can order rat with the catheter and VAB™ implanted as a surgical service so that they arrive at your facility recovered from surgery. You can group house the animals until they are placed on study.
