For decades, Instech rodent infusion equipment has been standard equipment in many of the world’s largest pre-clinical contract research organizations. While the fluid connections are similar for any continuous infusion experiment, the scale, duration and documentation requirements of GLP infusion studies bring unique challenges.
The system’s primary job is to deliver an accurate dose of test article. To do this you need one pump per animal, and the pump must have a modern force sensor to detect occlusions quickly and without false positives. Reliability is critical: dropouts from patency issues or tether damage require extra animals at a minimum; worst case you may have to rerun a study. For example, properly counter-balancing the tether is critical for reliability but also animal welfare.
Finally, tox infusion studies can be labor intensive. Our OrchesTA™ software, developed over several years in cooperation with a leading CRO, automates pump programming and GLP documentation to reduce study labor costs by more than 50%.
